Job Details
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Palmdale, CA is seeking a Summer 2026 Intern Aeronautical Engineer for Mechanical Systems.
This position is located at a facility that requires special access.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Research, define, analyze, develop, design, test, and qualify aircraft subsystems.
- Design and test of subsystems and components along with the integration of aircraft electrical, hydraulic, and flight control systems.
- Perform requirements definition in coordination with system engineering.
- Develop, review, and maintain engineering drawings and models.
- Support integration and flight test, production, and sustainment activities.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical major.
- Coursework in Mechanics (e.g., Statics, Dynamics, etc.).
- Coursework in CATIA.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
Desired Skills & Attributes
- Knowledge of Landing Gear/Hydraulics.
- Knowledge of General Aircraft.
- Knowledge of Mechanical, Mechanisms, and Actuation Design.
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to learn continuously and identify multiple avenues to successfully reach team goals.
- Ability to work well individually and with team members across multiple organizations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to develop clear technical presentations for customers and suppliers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Skills, particularly Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Project.

Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from a standard 40 hours over a five-day work week, while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time Off benefits.
Compensation & Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $31,616 – $77,788.
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $36,504 – $77,788.
For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

- Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays.
- Represented full-time employees: accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays.
PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on the start date during the calendar year.
