Program Overview
The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while contributing to the company’s business needs. This program serves as an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. Through this co-op program, students gain the chance to work in a professional environment directly related to their field of study.
Position Summary & Details
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position for an engineering student primarily focused on mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate will be in their junior year or higher, enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program. This role enables TECO to leverage cost-effective technical support and knowledge to supplement the engineering and technical staff within Asset Management/O&PM and the power stations. Furthermore, this position is designed to identify and recruit highly motivated and effective entry-level engineers with the potential to become future leaders within TECO Energy.
Key Responsibilities (Accountabilities)
As a Summer 2026 Engineering Student, you will be responsible for:
- Develop inspection planning spreadsheets and inspection reports.
- Perform equipment inspections.
- Develop CAD drawings and sketches.
- Function as a liaison between Asset Management and the stations by attending meetings and documenting Action Items related to Asset Management.
- Review, communicate, and file documents as directed by Asset Management engineers.
Work Environment & Location
- Physical Location: Big Bend Station, CM Building 13031 Wyandotte Road Gibsonton, FL 33534
- Working Conditions: This role involves a combination of Plant/Field and Office environments. Candidates must be willing and able to work in dusty, hot, and noisy environments.
- Preferred Availability: Full-time (40 hours)
Qualifications
Education:
- The successful applicant must be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate-level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
- Required Degree: Engineering
- Preferred/Related Discipline: Mechanical Engineering
- Year in School: Junior or Senior
Co-Op Requirements:
- To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program is required (proof of enrollment required).
- If not eligible for a co-op program (or if the program is unavailable), the student may be considered an intern.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Proficiency in MS Office suite
