About the TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program:

The TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program is designed to offer college degree-seeking students an invaluable opportunity for professional growth while simultaneously addressing the critical business needs of the company. This program serves as an extension of the formal educational process, providing practical, hands-on experience that directly complements formal classroom work. Through this co-op, students gain the chance to work in a professional environment directly related to their field of study. Work assignments are carefully structured to align with the needs of the department and the company, ensuring meaningful and challenging tasks for the student. These co-op positions will report directly to the Energy Supply department and involve supporting a diverse range of technical projects, varying in complexity, scope, and duration.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations (Accountabilities):

  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress in school and demonstrate consistent, satisfactory performance on the job.
  • Engage in hands-on work in a variety of environments, including office settings, power stations, and service areas.
  • Willingness and ability to work at heights (e.g., on raised walkways) and within industrial environments that may be dirty, dusty, hot, and noisy.
  • Must be willing and able to work across TECO’s service areas and power stations.

Work Locations:

  • Primary Physical Location: Big Bend Station, CM Building, 13031 Wyandotte Road, Gibsonton, FL 33534.
  • Additional Potential Work Locations:
    • Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach, FL
    • Bayside Power Station in Tampa, FL
    • Polk Power Station in Mulberry, FL

Working Conditions:

This role involves a combination of plant/field and office environments. Students must be willing and able to work in conditions that can be dusty, hot, and noisy.

Availability:

Full-time, 40 hours per week, typically Monday – Friday, within a 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM window.

Qualifications:

Education & Enrollment:

  • Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited university as a college undergraduate (Junior or Senior year) or a graduate-level post-secondary educational program.
  • Seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • Required Degree Discipline: Cybersecurity.
  • Preferred/Related Disciplines: Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.

Co-Op Program Requirements:

  • To qualify as a co-op student, you must be enrolled in your university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required).
  • If ineligible for a co-op program (or if a program is unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.

Academic Standing:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

Year in School:

  • Junior or Senior year.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Systems: Proficiency with Windows Server or Workstation operating systems, VMware or Hyper-V, task scripting and scheduling, and applying system updates.
  • Networking: Understanding of IP addressing and subnetting, VLANs, routing, and appliance configuration.
  • Vulnerability Management: Ability to research, identify, evaluate, and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Backup & Recovery: Experience in creating, saving, and redeploying backups.
  • Industrial Automation: Basic knowledge of control logic and communication protocols.
