Hoar Summer 2026 Construction Internship Program
Hoar is actively seeking enthusiastic and dedicated students for our highly competitive Summer 2026 Internship Program. This invaluable opportunity is designed for aspiring professionals in civil engineering, construction engineering, and building/construction sciences who are eager to gain comprehensive, hands-on experience in the dynamic construction industry.
Our program provides interns with a holistic view of the construction lifecycle, offering direct exposure to critical areas such as:
- Estimating: Understanding the meticulous process of cost assessment and resource allocation.
- Project Management: Gaining insight into the planning, execution, and oversight of construction projects.
- Field Operations: Experiencing the practical application of construction principles directly on job sites.
Key Internship Duties and Learning Opportunities:
As a Hoar intern, you will play an integral role in our project teams, contributing to various phases of construction. Your responsibilities will include:
- Construction Process Comprehension: Develop a foundational understanding of the entire construction lifecycle, from initial concept to project closeout.
- Quantity Takeoff and Estimating: Actively participate in the detailed assessment of materials and labor required for projects, contributing to accurate cost projections and resource planning.
- Submittal Process Management: Learn and execute the crucial submittal process, including:
- Maintaining precise logs of all project documentation.
- Reviewing and assisting in the approval of shop drawings and other critical submittals to ensure compliance and quality.
- Documentation and Communication: Prepare essential transmittals for the efficient distribution of project documentation, ensuring clear and organized communication among all stakeholders.
- Project Phase Support: Assist our teams with vital tasks across various project stages, including:
- Initial jobsite setup and logistics planning.
- Navigating and securing necessary permitting.
- Supporting the comprehensive project closeout procedures.
Desired Skills & Attributes:
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a strong aptitude for:
- Computer Proficiency: Including strong working knowledge of spreadsheets and other relevant software.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential for effective team collaboration and documentation.
- Responsibility & Initiative: A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of tasks and learning opportunities.
Program Requirements:
To be considered for the Hoar Summer 2026 Internship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university.
- Degree Pursuit: Actively pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in one of the following fields:
- Construction Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Building Science
- Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Academic Standing: Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Work Availability: Must be able to commit to working 40 hours per week during the Summer 2026 internship term.
- Academic Progress: Must have completed your college freshman year prior to the internship start date.
- Career Aspiration: Possess a genuine desire to pursue a career in the construction industry upon graduation.
- Communication: Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Mobility: Hold a valid Driver’s License.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Environment: The work environment is dynamic, encompassing both indoor office settings and outdoor jobsite locations. Interns should be prepared for exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions, as well as regular travel between different project sites.
Physical: Primary functions necessitate sufficient physical ability and mobility to operate effectively in an office environment and on construction sites. This includes:
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling light to moderate amounts of weight.
- Operating office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination.
- Travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation.
- Verbal communication to exchange information effectively.
Vision: Must be able to see within the normal visual range, with or without correction.
Hearing: Must be able to hear within the normal audio range, with or without correction.
