About the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Internship Program:

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is the second largest transit system in the country. Our college internship program offers both summer and year-long internships designed to provide students with valuable work experience, professional development, and mentorship. Interns gain exposure to the discipline of the workplace and are guided by subject matter experts who assist them in acquiring essential skills, knowledge, and experience for today’s technically demanding careers.

CTA internships are project-based, meaning the skills sought vary based on project needs each term. All majors are welcome to apply, but specific educational requirements are outlined for each project. Internships are part-time (15 hours/week) during the school year and full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer.

About the Role: Summer 2026-2027 Data Visualization Intern

This internship is within the Chief Planning and Innovation Officer department’s Customer Insights & Strategy unit. As a Data Visualization Intern, you will be instrumental in transforming customer satisfaction data into actionable insights through visual dashboards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Consult with stakeholders to define insights and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Power BI dashboard.
• Create the Power BI dashboard using provided customer satisfaction datasets.
• Prepare a summary of the dashboard, outlining its functionality and structure.
• Prepare and present dashboard analysis to internal stakeholders.
• Support other market research projects, which may include survey testing or engaging riders for participation in research.

Qualifications:

Educational Experience/Requirements:

• Preferred Major(s): Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Marketing Statistics.
• Preferred Level of Education: College senior and above.
• Required Enrollment Status: Full-time (as defined by your academic institution) in a degree program at an accredited college or university.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to comply with demands associated with a normal office environment.
• Must be able to comply with office policy to work on-site twice per week.
• Light physical activity, including walking outdoors and climbing stairs.
• Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Good project management skills.
• Data visualization using Microsoft Power BI (or similar software).
• Experience working with large datasets.

Additional Details:

• Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate and may be higher or lower than target.
