Job Description: Summer 2025 Technical Internship Program
This program offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of filmmaking and technology, working alongside industry leaders at Lucasfilm and ILM. As a Technical Intern, you will gain valuable hands-on experience contributing to transformative projects that shape the future of entertainment.
Your internship experience could involve:
• Software Development: Develop software tools, APIs, and systems to streamline production workflows, improve infrastructure monitoring, and enhance user interfaces.
• Research & Development: Contribute to cutting-edge projects in fields like machine learning, computer vision, real-time rendering, and simulation technologies to address complex production challenges.
• Technical Support: Provide vital assistance in maintaining and troubleshooting IT systems, including desktop support, network infrastructure, and data management, ensuring smooth operations across Lucasfilm and ILM.
• Art & Design: Collaborate on the creation, optimization, and integration of 3D models, textures, visual effects, and shaders to deliver immersive and interactive experiences across various platforms.
• Systems Engineering: Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of advanced video and audio systems within Lucasfilm and ILM’s state-of-the-art production environments.
Key Qualifications & Skills:
• Proficiency in programming languages: Python, C++, and/or Java are essential.
• Strong understanding of software development practices: Experience with version control systems like Git and Perforce is required.
• Excellent communication skills: Both written and verbal communication are essential for effective collaboration within a team environment.
• Strong time management skills: Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced setting is crucial.
• Passion for technology, storytelling, and innovation: A genuine enthusiasm for these areas is a key requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with web frameworks: Django, Flask, and React are beneficial.
• Familiarity with database technologies: Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL is a plus.
• Knowledge of game engines: Experience with Unreal Engine and real-time rendering technologies is desirable.
• Understanding of 3D graphics applications: Experience with Maya, 3Ds Max, and visual effects pipelines is beneficial.
• Familiarity with virtualization and containerization technologies: Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
• Prior experience or strong interest in media production, film, or visual effects: A background or passion in these areas is advantageous.
Education:
• Currently working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Digital Art, Game Design, or a related field.
Program Details:
• Location: San Francisco, CA
• Program Length: May/June – August/September 2025 (12 weeks)
• Full-time: 40 hours per week
Eligibility Requirements:
• Enrolment: Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to and following the internship.
• Age: At least 18 years old
• Work Authorization: Must possess unrestricted work authorization in the United States.
• Availability: Full availability for the entire program duration.
• Housing and Transportation: Must provide your own housing and transportation during the internship.
• Prior Participation: Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program.
