Social Interaction Team: Building Connections

The Social Interaction team focuses on developing a platform that enables users to seamlessly connect with their real-life friends on TikTok. They build and maintain features like Story, Video Like, Comment, Friends Tab, Inbox Tab, Repost, TikTok Now, and the standalone TikTok Now app.

Their work involves the intersection of product, data, design, and engineering, with the ultimate goal of improving the social experience on TikTok and bringing joy to millions of users worldwide.

Software Engineer Intern

This internship program provides students with hands-on experience in software development, fostering fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. Interns will gain industry exposure and contribute to the development of TikTok’s social platform.

Responsibilities:

• Create and refine high-performance mobile apps, pushing the boundaries of mobile technology.
• Work closely with the product team to conceptualize, develop, and launch innovative features.
• Participate in designing, architecting, and implementing well-tested Objective-C software for TikTok’s social experiences.
• Foster robust and maintainable code, clear documentation, and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

• Currently pursuing an Undergraduate/Graduate/Master’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Able to commit to 12 weeks of work during Summer 2025.
• Strong understanding of software development principles, capabilities, and limitations of the iOS/Android platform.
• Proficiency in Objective-C or Swift.

Preferred:

• Graduating December 2025 onwards with the intention to return to their degree program after the internship.
• Ability to understand and debug large, complex codebases.
• Strong team communication and collaboration skills.
• Passion and experience building consumer-facing products (app development experience is a plus).

Internship Details:

• 12 weeks beginning in May/June 2025.
• Start dates: Monday, May 12, Monday, May 19, Tuesday, May 27, Monday, June 9, Monday, June 23.
• Prioritization given to candidates who can commit to these start dates.
• Candidates can apply to a maximum of two positions.
• Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early application is encouraged.
• Online assessment (HackerRank) is required for RD candidates who pass the resume evaluation.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Hourly rate range of $45 – $60, depending on the selected city.
