About ByteDance Doubao (Seed) Team

The ByteDance Doubao (Seed) Team, established in 2023, is dedicated to developing cutting-edge AI foundation models. With a long-term vision and commitment to the AI field, the team conducts research in various areas, including:

• Natural Language Processing (NLP)
• Computer Vision (CV)
• Speech Recognition and Generation

The team operates labs and researcher roles in China, Singapore, and the US. Leveraging extensive data and computing resources, they’ve created a proprietary general-purpose model with multimodal capabilities. This model powers over 50 ByteDance apps and business lines in the Chinese market, including Doubao, Coze, and Dreamina. It has also been launched to external enterprise clients through Volcano Engine. The Doubao app, powered by this model, is currently the most used AIGC app in China.

AML Machine Learning Systems Internship

The AML Machine Learning Systems team at ByteDance provides end-to-end machine learning experiences and resources for the company. The team builds heterogeneous ML training and inference systems based on GPU and AI chips, pushing the boundaries of ML systems technology to accelerate models like stable diffusion and large language models (LLMs). Additionally, the team focuses on research and development of hardware acceleration technologies for AI and cloud computing, leveraging technologies like distributed systems, high-performance computing (HPC), and Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) networking. They are essentially reinventing the ML infrastructure for large-scale language models. This team has a strong track record of publishing research at top-tier conferences including SIGCOMM, NSDI, EuroSys, OSDI, SOSP, MLSys, and NeurIPS.

This 12-week internship program, starting in May/June 2025, offers students a chance to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the development of essential machine learning systems. The internship provides a vibrant environment with social events and development workshops.

As an intern, you will be involved in:

• Researching and developing key components of machine learning systems, including distributed frameworks, cluster scheduling, and storage systems.
• Optimizing implementations and deploying them in production systems.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and platforms.
• Ability to commit to a 12-week internship during summer 2025.
• Published papers at top conferences is a plus.
• Proficiency in Go and Python development in Linux environments.
• Familiarity with at least one deep learning framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet, or others).
• Ability to work independently and complete projects effectively and timely.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively convey technical concepts to team members.
• Must have work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduating in December 2025 or later with the intention to return to the degree program after the internship.
