About the Company:

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) manages the flow of electricity across 80% of California’s high-voltage power grid, ensuring reliable service for 30 million residents. It acts as an impartial grid operator, providing open access to the wholesale power market to diversify resources and lower prices. The ISO grants equal access to extensive power lines and facilitates competition among energy providers. Its role is similar to that of air traffic controllers, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of electricity without owning the grid itself.

What You Will Be Doing:

Past intern projects have included:

Software Development: Building new tools to support grid operation and energy markets. This involves learning about smart grid technology, renewable resources, forecasting, and industry advancements.
Data Validation & Testing: Working on processes for calculating and publishing energy market settlement statements and invoices.
Systems Integration: Developing enterprise-wide system integration mapping and databases, collaborating with IT architects and QA leads.
Website Content Creation: Providing technical content and sample code for the ISO’s developer website.
Automation & Documentation: Documenting archiving solutions for new technologies and developing automation solutions.
Database Administration: Maintaining Oracle databases and storage task queues, creating automation scripts, generating reports, and performing capacity planning.
Process Improvement: Working on projects to reduce processing time, enhance transparency, and improve capabilities across various departments.

The specific project assignments for Summer 2025 will be determined during the selection process.
