Student Medical Laboratory Scientist – Microbiology

BJC HealthCare is seeking students who have graduated or are graduating from an MLT or MLS program to join their organization as Student Medical Laboratory Scientists in the Microbiology department. This role involves delivering precise and reliable laboratory results that positively impact patient outcomes.

Key Details:

Open Positions: MLT and MLS roles
Shifts: Day Shift, Evening Shift, and Overnight Shifts available
Shift Differential: Additional compensation for evening and overnight shifts
Required Education: Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in physical/life science/related program
Licenses/Certifications: Encouraging Licenses and certifications in either ASCP, AMT,AAB or equiv or elig
Sign-On-Bonus: Eligibility for a sign-on bonus

Role Purpose:

The Student Medical Laboratory Scientist performs specimen processing and routine testing on blood and other specimens, requiring knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, procedure methodologies, and reference ranges. The role emphasizes good laboratory practices.

Responsibilities:

• Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
• Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
• Reports results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turnaround times for routine testing and stats.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Associate’s Degree in Physical/Life Science/related field
Experience: No prior experience required
Supervisor Experience: No prior supervisor experience required

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience: Less than 2 years of experience
