Job Description: Student Internship
This is a developmental internship designed to provide students with practical experience and exposure to key business processes within Calavo Growers. The program aims to support the management teams and achieve company objectives. The internship is intended as a learning opportunity covering various aspects of the avocado supply chain and broader food industry.
Role Responsibilities: The internship offers a rotational structure, allowing students to gain insights into multiple departments:
• Learning Key Business Functions: Working alongside management and team members to understand the core drivers and functions within sales, marketing, operations, and food safety.
• Departmental Rotations: Rotating through different departments to learn key aspects of various positions.
• Event Support: Assisting with the organization of events and trade shows.
• Marketing Contributions: Helping develop marketing campaigns and promotional materials.
• Market Research: Potentially contributing to market research to identify trends and competitor activity.
• Special Project Support: Assisting with special projects, promotions, or efforts supporting existing accounts.
• Regulatory Research: Researching industry regulations and best practices.
• Operational Support: Gaining an understanding of order processing, data entry, and load tracking/tracing across various platforms.
• Training Material Development: Helping develop training materials related to food handling and safety protocols.
• Supply Chain Understanding: Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the avocado supply chain.
• Competitor Analysis: Potentially preparing summaries of competitor information and trends.
• Other Duties: Performing other duties and projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Enrollment in an accredited two or four-year degree-granting educational institution in the United States.
• Pursuing a related major (Food Science, Business Administration, Retail Studies, Agriculture, Food Marketing, Merchandising preferred).
Skills and Abilities:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• High organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Positive attitude, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
Physical Demands: The role primarily involves office work with prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking. It may also include some light lifting (up to 30 lbs) and exposure to varying temperatures within the facility. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
