This is a Student Intern position with the Parks Department, seeking 2 individuals.

Length of Internship: The internship is designed to last for the minimum duration required by the intern’s educational institution to meet graduation or class credit standards. There is a possibility of extension beyond this period, subject to agreement between the Parks & Recreation Director and the intern.

Job Summary: The intern will primarily assist the Parks and Recreation Department by completing various tasks, leading programs and events, attending meetings, and providing support across different divisions within the department. The goal is to provide a well-rounded experience through issued responsibilities, under the direct supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation and other assigned Parks Staff.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Program and Event Management: Oversee or assist with a diverse range of departmental programs and events, including youth programming, adult programming, and special activities.
Divisional Support: Work closely with department supervisors to assist, shadow, and perform assigned tasks across various divisions and facilities, such as recreation, administration/office, and special events. Interns may have the opportunity to spend additional time in an area of particular interest.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare various reports and documents, including operating, activity, and statistical reports, as well as documentation for discipline cases or event recaps.
Meeting Attendance: Attend relevant meetings, which may include department staff meetings, staff trainings, and coach’s trainings/meetings.
Schedule Management: Maintain a flexible work schedule that allows for easy public access and aligns with the needs of department programs, events, and meetings.
Public Relations: Develop public understanding and foster participation in parks and recreation programs through public relations activities, interpreting the program’s philosophy and objectives through suitable means.
Community Relations: Establish and maintain cooperative planning and working relationships with other public and volunteer community agencies.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director or designated supervisor.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
Communication: Acceptable verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Public Relations: Ability to develop public understanding and participation, interpret programs, and achieve public relations objectives through speaking engagements and media use.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative planning and working relationships with various community agencies.

Tools and Equipment Used: The role requires proficiency in operating miscellaneous office equipment, including personal computers, copiers, and fax machines. Additionally, the intern must be capable of operating motor vehicles, various recreation equipment, and communication equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: The job involves regular use of hands and fingers for tasks, handling tools and controls, and reaching. Frequently, the employee will need to stand, walk, talk, hear, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. The role requires frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The work is typically performed in a varied environment, including indoors at school gyms and outdoors at park facilities. Employees may be exposed to inclement weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate.

Supervisory Controls: This position reports directly to the Special Event Program Supervisor and, as needed, to the Recreation Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be currently enrolled in High School.
• Must possess a valid driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with recreation and sports.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
