Job Description:
Position: Student Intern
Department: NYU Grossman School of Medicine
Summary: The Student Intern will provide direct data and/or clinical research support under direct supervision. This role involves working with various departments and staff within the School of Medicine and Medical Center, and may include interfacing with patients and their families.
Responsibilities:
• Utilizing established methodologies to collect patient information for research projects.
• Gathering and compiling data, statistics, and other materials.
• Inputting clinical and non-clinical data into databases or case report forms.
• Extracting data for publications or providing data collection from outside physician offices.
• Performing library searches and retrieving reference materials.
• Completing assessments on study subjects/patients per protocol (with proper training), including follow-up and vital signs (if trained).
• Blood collection for biomarker analysis, neuropsychological testing, PET/MR imaging, data organization and data management.
• Gathering, properly packaging, storing, and transferring slides, samples, and other important materials.
• Coordinating the shipment and transfer of materials among departments and labs.
• Maintaining regular contact with patients, encouraging visit reminders and compliance.
• Ensuring courteous, effective, professional, and cooperative interaction with patients and their families.
• Acting as an internal auditor during quarterly internal audits for other studies.
• Demonstrating knowledge of study policies and procedures, including regulatory requirements such as IRB approvals.
• Collaborating with various personnel involved in the study.
• Recruiting and screening potential patients/subjects for study eligibility.
• Compiling data and assisting in analyzing data for presentation to sponsoring and regulatory agencies.
• Reviewing data with supervisors and providing reports on study progress.
• Ensuring protocol compliance, including eligibility criteria, follow-up processes, and documentation.
• Working with the Principal Investigator on FDA/IND amendments and continuations for active studies.
• Working with the Principal Investigator on NIH reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be a full-time student, or if working in the summer months (Mid-May through Mid-Sept), must be planning to return to full-time status in the fall.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree plus one-year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills.
Salary: $16.50 – $20.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
