The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is responsible for the city’s surface transportation networks and public way. This includes over 4,100 miles of streets, bridges, bikeways, streetlights, sidewalks, and signalized intersections. CDOT’s mission is to ensure safe and accessible transportation for all users, maintain infrastructure in good repair, and address local and citywide mobility needs.
Job Description:
CDOT is seeking Student Interns for its Policy and Planning division. This position is based out of CDOT’s Commissioner’s Office and the Division of Planning and Policy (DPP), where you’ll work directly with the Commissioner and other senior staff. The DPP is responsible for long range planning and policy development. The intern will support the Commissioner and senior staff by performing policy and program analysis, researching emerging transportation issues, developing policy priorities, analyzing and managing CDOT’s engagement program, and other related tasks.
Essential Duties:
• Research current and/or emerging transportation issues and summarize findings in memo format.
• Support policy and program development.
• Support the design, execution, and analysis related to transportation planning studies.
• Draft and review policy and communications briefs and memos.
• Community engagement strategy development.
• Provide data-driven policy and strategy recommendations and assist with maintenance and improvement of internal documentation and systems.
This is a temporary, 12-month academic year internship.
