Job Description

Position Title: Student Intern

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at NYU Grossman School of Medicine as a Student Intern.

Duration and Focus:
The role offers a 10 to 12-week, full-time work experience. Its primary purpose is to provide students with a practical opportunity to apply their developing knowledge and skills in key areas such as:
• Health services administration/management
• Research
• Policy

Through this experience, students will gain a better appreciation for the pressures and complexities that influence decision-making in today’s dynamic healthcare environment. It also helps them identify additional skills necessary to better prepare for a rewarding career in healthcare administration.

Key Job Responsibilities:
The Student Intern will be involved in a variety of tasks crucial to operational efficiency and financial health within the institution’s revenue cycle. These responsibilities include:
• Providing constructive feedback and assisting in the development of training tools, policies, and procedures.
• Ensuring that cash optimization and accounts receivable (AR) reduction activities are functioning at their fullest capability.
• Timely reporting of any discrepancies or inconsistencies found in data and/or reports to management.
• Strict adherence to compliance and departmental policies and procedures, including a mandatory 100% compliance with HIPAA requirements.
• Demonstrating the ability to work independently, take initiative, and engage in critical thinking.
• Collaborating effectively with various internal departments within NYULMC and with NYULMC’s contracted payers.
• Evaluating and escalating inaccuracies related to eligibility, authorization, billing, and claims processing to facilitate the implementation of upstream solutions.
• Maintaining data integrity during the manipulation of data files for analysis, ensuring data remains uncorrupted through conscientious use of tools and a system of checks and balances.
• Executing data mining and conducting in-depth accounts receivable analysis.
• Collecting and analyzing data to identify and determine areas for operational improvement throughout the revenue cycle.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• The student intern must be a full-time student. If the internship takes place during the summer months (Mid-May through Mid-September), the student must be planning to return to full-time status in the fall.
• Qualified candidates must possess the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary:
The salary range for this role is $16.50 – $20.00 Hourly. It is important to note that actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This stated range does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
