Compensation

This is a paid internship opportunity offering a competitive hourly wage of $18-$19/hour. Interns also have the exciting potential to earn leasing commissions, rewarding their successful contributions to resident acquisition.

Job Summary and Responsibilities: Student Housing Operations Internship

We are actively seeking dynamic and motivated interns who possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a proactive “can-do” attitude. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside our Social Student Spaces management teams across the nation, allowing you to advance your career knowledge within the rapidly expanding multifamily housing industry. You will join an organization deeply committed to exceptional customer service and guided by strong values.

Under the direct supervision of an assigned mentor, each Intern will collaborate closely with our team of dedicated professionals. Your primary role will be to contribute significantly to the creation and maintenance of a thriving and captivating living experience for student renters nationwide.

The Student Housing Operations Internship is meticulously designed to provide comprehensive exposure to all facets of Student Housing. This includes critical areas such as Marketing strategies, day-to-day Property Operations, and essential Facilities Management. We are specifically looking for interns who bring a great attitude, are genuine team-players, will proudly embody their university spirit, and can effectively relate to and engage with potential residents at their respective property locations.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Property Ambassador and Leasing Agent: Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of the property, providing exceptional service to current students/residents and prospective tenants.
  • Superior Customer Service: Deliver outstanding customer service through various channels, including professional phone interactions, timely email correspondence, and engaging in-person communication.
  • Social Media and Outreach Support: Actively assist in developing and executing social media initiatives and other prospect outreach efforts to attract new residents.
  • Property Condition Assessments: Conduct thorough unit walks and property condition assessments, ensuring high standards are maintained.
  • Leasing Journey Guidance: Expertly guide prospective residents through every phase of the leasing and prospect journey, from initial inquiry to lease signing.
  • Market Analysis Support: Provide valuable assistance in conducting market surveys and detailed data comparison analyses to inform strategic decisions.
  • Promotional Material Creation: Help with the conceptualization, creation, and effective utilization of promotional materials to market the community.
  • Online Community Engagement: Actively post about our communities, resident services, and events online, utilizing social media platforms and relevant forums to foster engagement.
  • Additional Managerial Tasks: Be prepared to undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Manager, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute wherever needed.

  • Interest in Student Housing/Property Management/Business: A demonstrated enthusiasm for gaining experience in Student Housing, Property Management, and/or the broader Business sector.

Computer Skills

  • Intermediate computer and internet knowledge: Proficiency in general computer usage and navigating the internet.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook: Competence in using Microsoft Word for document creation, Excel for data management, and Outlook for email communication.

Learning and Development

  • Commitment to Growth: A dedicated commitment to ongoing professional development and career growth, actively participating in the Fowler Internship Program.

Education

  • Current Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in a four-year university, community college, or trade school.
  • Preferred Degrees: A Marketing, Real Estate, or Business Degree is preferred, but not strictly required.
  • Foundational Abilities: Must possess the ability to fluently read and write English, accurately perform intermediate mathematical functions, and proficiently use all on-site resident management software functions.

Professional Experience

  • Preferred Experience: Preferred one-year experience in a sales or customer service role, demonstrating prior engagement in client-facing environments.

Special Requirements

Physical Demands

The team member will be regularly required to perform a variety of physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and reaching using feet, legs, back, arms, and hands. Occasional climbing may also be required. The role necessitates working at a personal computer and talking on the phone for extended periods. Must possess the ability to detect auditory and/or visual alarms and be available to work extended/flexible hours and weekends as needed. The intern must be willing to assist with light labor, such as, but not limited to, walking units, light painting, and assembling furniture.

Attendance/Travel

This is a full-time position that may require the availability to work some nights, weekends, and occasional holidays. Regular attendance and active participation/planning at company functions and events is also required. Candidates must be willing to work weekends and flexible hours to meet property needs.
