Veterinary Extern – General Practice | NVA General Practice

The Tone:
This is an externship at Tieton Drive Animal Clinic, located in Yakima, WA. Tieton Drive Animal Clinic has been a reputable staple in the Yakima community since 1960, providing compassionate, comprehensive veterinary care for companion animals and exotics. This role is crucial for fostering early career mentorship and developing specific skills for future veterinary professionals within a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine.

The TL;DR

• Location: In-person, Yakima, WA

• Team: Collaborative team of 6 DVMs, 10 licensed veterinary technicians, and strong support staff.
• Mission: To gain hands-on clinical and communication skills in a diverse veterinary practice setting through strong mentorship.
• Tech Stack: Ultrasound, Digital Dental Radiography, Surgical CO2 Laser, Digital Radiography, Advanced Orthopedic Equipment (including TPLO kit, bone plating and ESF equipment), Ezyvet, Smartflow

What You’ll Actually Do
• Contribute to patient care by gathering histories and performing physical examinations.
• Develop skills in creating treatment plans, performing diagnostics, and managing medical cases.
• Participate in dentistry services, observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures, including orthopedics.
• Receive strong mentorship and training in feline medicine, wellness, and preventative care.
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Doctorate Degree. Entry-Level. Clinical year DVM students from an accredited university program.
• Experience: Completion of at least a two-week externship as a clinical year DVM student.
• Skills: Patient history gathering, physical examinations, treatment plan creation, diagnostic interpretation, surgical assistance.
