Structural Engineering Intern – Late Summer through Winter 2026

About the Role
As a Structural Engineering Intern at Walker Consultants, you will gain invaluable experience contributing to the design of some of the world’s largest structures, including resort, casino, and airport parking facilities. These unique structures blend elements of both bridges and buildings, demanding a sophisticated understanding of structural design and materials science due to their aesthetic requirements, long spans, thermal movements, and critical durability challenges. Every framing member of these structures is exposed to public view and the elements, underscoring the importance of robust design.
You will be an integral member of an internal multi-disciplinary team comprising architects, engineers, planners, and restoration professionals. This role offers direct mentorship, reporting to the Director of Design, a Project Manager, or a Project Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with Project Architects/Engineers to develop comprehensive project designs and drawings.
- Prepare and revise detailed documentation across various architectural/structural phases, including floor plans, building elevations, building sections, and intricate details.
- Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology (Revit) for the development of 3D building models, facilitating coordination, design, and documentation.
- Interpret and apply relevant building codes and regulatory agency requirements.
- Perform essential structural design calculations and detailing for superstructures, foundations, and soil-retention systems.
- Assist in overall project coordination and participate actively in internal team meetings.
- Contribute to the review of construction phase documentation.
- Review project submittals and shop drawings to ensure compliance and quality.
- Gain hands-on experience through opportunities to participate in fieldwork and site visits.
- Undertake other duties as required to support project success.
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or Architectural/Engineering Technology.
- 0-5 years of prior structural design experience.
- Knowledge and experience using Revit is preferred.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Possess excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills, enabling effective interaction with clients, consultants, and internal team members.
- Reliable access to a personal vehicle is required for the duration of employment.
