Job Title: Structural Engineer Co-op

Location: Atlanta, GA (Onsite)

Rotation: Summer 2026

SSOE is seeking a dedicated Structural Engineer Co-op for the Summer 2026 Rotation. This is an onsite role requiring daily presence at our Atlanta, GA office; remote or hybrid work is not available for this position. The ideal candidate will be committed to completing a minimum of 2 full-time, alternating co-op rotations in the office where they are hired, prior to their graduation.

Key Responsibilities

The Co-op will perform assigned tasks under the close supervision of a Department Manager or designee, receiving specific and detailed instructions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Structural Drawing Review & 3D Modeling: Review existing structural drawings to understand their composition and how to create a 3D model from them.
  • BIM Model Creation: Utilize Autodesk REVIT for creating a 3D Building Information Model (BIM) and reviewing its accuracy with a supervisor for renovation purposes.
  • Shop Drawing Analysis: Review various types of shop drawings (e.g., structural steel, masonry, foundations), compare them against construction documents, and markup for structural engineer review.
  • PDF Markup & Collaboration: Employ Bluebeam Revu software for marking up PDF files, then review completed markups with a supervisor and project engineer.
  • Analytical Model Creation: Develop analytical models using structural software programs such as RISA 3D, Tedds, and RAM Structural Systems, coordinating them with 3D BIM models. Perform spot checks by hand and review results with a supervisor or project engineer.
  • Adherence to Standards: Learn and apply department standards, methods, and procedures relevant to the field of study.
  • Deadline Management: Meet various deadlines for daily duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Site Visits: Periodically visit construction sites to review structural and foundation status, providing reports and action items for contractors within ACC.

Qualifications

  • Academic Enrollment: Must be enrolled in a co-op program at an ABET accredited engineering school, majoring in Structural or Structural track of Civil Engineering or a technically related discipline.
  • Academic Standing: Second or third academic year preferred.
  • Program Registration: Must be registered with the Office of Professional Experience Program or equivalent.
  • Skills: Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required (may be waived for international assignments).

Salary Range

$20-$23 per hour, depending on the academic year in school.
