Job Description

About the Company:

Tide Rock is an unlevered buyout firm that acquires companies in the lower middle market. They target companies with strong cash earnings and high-quality products/services, identifying and removing artificial constraints to accelerate growth. Their strategy focuses on sustainable earnings growth to deliver consistent cash distributions to investors. Unlike traditional fund structures with constrained timelines, Tide Rock utilizes a holding company structure, enabling an evergreen-like strategy allowing them to grow businesses to an optimal exit point without time pressure. They work closely with management teams to implement their proprietary playbook.

Job Description:

This Strategic Finance Internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in capital and portfolio management, as well as project-based strategic analyses across Tide Rock’s portfolio. The intern will primarily work with the Director of Finance and CFO, but will also have broader exposure across the firm.

The internship is heavily focused on supporting strategic finance initiatives, which are largely ad hoc in nature. Key areas of focus include:

Cash flow modeling: Building and updating financial models related to cash flow.
Capital management: Supporting activities related to the firm’s capital allocation and management.
Portfolio monitoring: Tracking and analyzing the performance of the portfolio companies.
Company-specific analyses: Conducting in-depth analyses of individual portfolio companies to identify value creation opportunities.
Financial data analysis: Gathering, cleansing, interpreting financial data, identifying underlying business drivers, and spotting opportunities.
Returns modeling: Creating and interpreting returns models (IRR, MOIC, total return, waterfalls).
Presentation creation: Developing presentation materials to communicate analyses and recommendations.

The internship requires a strong understanding of finance and related concepts. It is particularly suitable for graduate students pursuing degrees in finance, economics, or general business. The position is a full-time (40 hrs/week) summer 2025 internship (with a potential for part-time extension during the school year), located in Solana Beach, CA. Prior professional experience in finance is required.
