Staff Accountant, General | Miami University

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger Close: Perform monthly and year-end close processes for the general ledger.
• Journal Entry Management: Create, record, and approve various journal entries.
• Financial Record Maintenance: Collaborate with Shared Services and Auxiliaries to maintain accurate financial records.
• Audit Support: Prepare workpapers and draft related footnote disclosures for the year-end audit, and coordinate NCAA audit workpaper submission.
• Account Reconciliation: Complete monthly reconciliations for the University, including accounts receivable and auxiliary business units.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or General Business.
• Experience: No specific minimum experience required. Preferred: 1 year or more of professional experience.
• Skills: Proficient in Excel and other relevant analytical software; excellent communication (verbal and written), analytical, time management and organizational skills; knowledge of GAAP and accrual based accounting; ability to work independently and within constraints of deadlines.
• Bonus: Active CPA license, or having met qualifications to sit for the CPA exam; experience with ERP software system(s); experience with fund accounting; working knowledge of FASB and/or GASB guidance.
