Staff Accountant | Hearst Magazines

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at Hearst Magazines, located in Charlotte, NC, with an expectation of working in the office four days per week. Hearst Magazines is one of the largest publishers in the world, operating 30 iconic brands that reach over 150 million readers every month in the United States. Beyond its renowned magazines like Cosmopolitan, Harper’s BAZAAR, and Esquire, the company functions as a cutting-edge content distribution platform and proprietary data lab, actively reinventing publishing and media for the 21st century. In this role, you will be crucial in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations, directly supporting day-to-day business functions and contributing to a collaborative environment that impacts the entire organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Prepare: Take ownership of preparing journal entries and provide critical assistance during comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Reconcile: Meticulously reconcile general ledger accounts, thoroughly investigating and resolving any identified discrepancies to uphold the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
• Support: Provide essential support in the preparation of various financial reports, maintain precise accounting records, and assist with detailed account analyses, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance reporting.
• Collaborate: Partner effectively with diverse internal business teams across Hearst Magazines’ iconic brands to facilitate smooth day-to-day financial operations and ensure compliance with established accounting policies and controls.
• Contribute: Actively support internal and external audit requests by preparing necessary documentation, while also proactively identifying and contributing to opportunities for improving accounting processes and operational efficiencies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level professional with foundational knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience: 0+ years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, encompassing internships, co-op programs, or equivalent professional exposure.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and robust analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Bonus: Prior experience working with ERP or other financial systems.
