Staff Accountant | Iowa State Association of Counties

The Tone:
This is a full-time, on-site role at the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC), located in West Des Moines, IA. ISAC is a private, nonprofit corporation dedicated to serving elected and appointed county officials across Iowa’s 99 counties by providing advocacy, education, and support services. This Staff Accountant position is crucial for maintaining the daily fiscal health of the Iowa County Treasurers E-Commerce Alliance (ICTEA) and supporting the overall financial operations that empower effective local government. Staff members work closely with county officials and partners, upholding professionalism, integrity, and service-oriented teamwork.

• Mission: This person ensures the smooth daily fiscal operations for the Iowa County Treasurers E-Commerce Alliance (ICTEA) and supports ISAC’s overall financial management.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Business Central (preferred), Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile: Perform daily reconciliations for the Iowa County Treasurers E-Commerce Alliance (ICTEA) to ensure financial accuracy.
• Resolve: Investigate and resolve any reconciliation discrepancies in a timely and effective manner.
• Process: Assist in processing disbursements for ICTEA and help ensure efficient management of the association’s fiscal activities, including collections and reporting.
• Handle: Process and accurately maintain accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and payroll transactions.
• Support: Provide general office assistance, including answering phones, and execute Ad Hoc financial projects as they arise.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required for this early-career accounting support role.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are mandated, though a foundational understanding of accounting operations and fiscal management is expected.
• Skills: Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, activities, and tasks simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines. Possess highly developed verbal and written communication abilities and be proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Bonus: Prior experience with Microsoft Business Central is preferred, but not required.
