Job Title: Specialty Pharmacy Intern

Pay Range: USD $19.60 – USD $23.06 /Yr.

Work Schedule: M-F 8:00am-6pm (rotating 8.5 hour shifts)

Location: 3662 Park Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110, US

Overview:
The Specialty Pharmacy Intern will provide assistance with both customer service and clinical programs within Lumicera Specialty Pharmacy. A primary responsibility of this role involves effective communication with patients, physicians, pharmacists, and payers concerning the fulfillment and patient care aspects of specialty pharmacy medications. This position requires the ability to assess patient needs, provide consultations on specialty pharmaceuticals and various disease states, and accurately set up medication orders and necessary supplies. The core focus of this role is on the clinical management and consultation of patients who utilize specialty pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities include answering incoming calls with a professional greeting, accurately gathering relevant information for prescription fulfillment and clinical programs, and performing outbound calls to patients, prescribers, and insurance companies to collect pertinent clinical information. The Specialty Pharmacy Intern will also contribute to the maintenance and development of Lumicera’s clinical programs and project initiatives within the specialty pharmacy domain. This role necessitates strong analytical skills to collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and identify and resolve clinical problems.

Responsibilities (How you will make an impact):

Communication & Support:
• Accept inbound calls from patients, prescribers, or other health professionals to support specialty pharmacy functions.
• Make outbound calls to patients, prescribers, and insurance providers to verify and/or gather prescription or clinical information relevant to assessing appropriate therapy.
Clinical Management:
• Collect clinical information and perform clinical disease state and drug consultations.
• Utilize operating systems and tools to assist in managing patient therapy and refill compliance.
Compliance & Quality:
• Act in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and maintain the highest ethical standards; legal and ethical compliance is an essential duty.
• Demonstrate strong detail-orientation, ensuring accurate order creation and execution.
• Document and report medication errors to the direct supervisor. Facilitate error reduction and prevention methods based on identified errors and ISMP standards. Perform FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) risk assessments of new-to-market medications.
• Participate in the quality management program, including participation in committees focused on monitoring and evaluation of performance data.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives based on the outcomes of those evaluations.
