Job Description: Special Events and Volunteer Intern
This Fall Internship (September 15-December 12) offers hands-on experience in the field of special events. As an intern, you will work closely with the Damar Communications Team, supporting both internal and external volunteers. This role provides exposure to event coordination, volunteer management, and Damar’s unique client population.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with preparations, setup, and teardown for internal events like Spirit Week, Fall Festival, Trick or Treating, and Elf Shopping and Wrapping.
• Support event preparation and facilitation for external events such as the Community Client Concert, Damar Cup Golf Outing, the Difference Maker Breakfast, and Sensory Snow Day.
• Create a welcoming environment for volunteers and support them during activities.
• Assist with event designs and preparations, considering budgets, décor, timelines, volunteers, layouts, food and beverage, and post-event evaluations.
• Learn to use volunteer and event management technology (OneCause and VolunteerHub) for administrative tasks.
• Assist with preparations for the Damar Gala, as needed.
• Provide high-quality hospitality for volunteers and event guests.
• Write thank you notes for volunteers after events.
• Maintain a respectful and positive attitude when responding to the needs of others.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma.
• At least sophomore standing in college.
• 1 year of college in a major related to: Events, Tourism, Hospitality, Communications, Volunteer Management, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or Philanthropy.
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and physical.
• Must meet and maintain background screening requirements of program(s) assigned to.
• No felony convictions or other criminal offenses involving a dependent population.
Physical Requirements:
The role requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting, stand or sit for prolonged periods, occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist, lift up to 35lbs, operate office equipment, travel to various locations, and verbally communicate.
