## Special Effects Intern Job Description
What You’ll Do
This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in the world of theme park special effects. You’ll be assisting with all stages of the special effects process, from concept to completion, for one or more attractions/projects. This includes:
• Concept & Design: Collaborate with the Special Effects lead to conceptualize and design special effects that support the overall show.
• Production: Assist in the production of special effects equipment, ensuring adherence to design specifications.
• Installation: Participate in field installations of special effects equipment, working alongside skilled professionals.
• Testing & Adjustment: Help test and adjust special effects equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Turnover: Assist with the handover of completed special effects projects, providing post-turnover support.
• Documentation: Prepare and deliver documentation to establish the FX scope on projects.
• Collaboration: Work closely with various teams, including creative, engineering, and technical, to meet project requirements.
• Maintenance & Training: Support the maintenance and operations training for the special effects equipment.
Responsibilities
• Assist the overall project team in scope development from concept to close-out.
• Ensure internal and external requirements are met.
• Produce, install, maintain, and fix theme park special effects equipment according to the Special Effects Lead Designers direction.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Ability to form and track to a plan to achieve goals.
• Basic knowledge of Special Effects used at Disney theme park attractions.
• General understanding of related technical fields and their application to special effects, including optics, mechanics, and materials processes.
• Familiarity with special effects/projection equipment, materials, and processes.
• Proficiency in Solidworks.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Disney theme park special effects.
• Theatrical training.
• Background in industrial design, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance, with experience in special effects and projection system design.
Education
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or graduated within 6 months from an accredited college/university with a BA or BS in the Arts, Engineering, or a related field.
