Job Description:

Title: Special Education Teacher (CASE)

This position requires a Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS1 endorsement.

Direct Supervisor: Building Principal and/or Supervisor of Special Education

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

The Special Education Teacher (CASE) works alongside a general education teacher in an inclusive classroom and must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Responsibilities include:

• Demonstrates support for the Mission, Vision, and Goals of the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123.
• Upholds established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures.
• Communicates and cooperates with colleagues, students, parents, and the community as needed to meet professional standards.
• Maintains and improves professional competence.
• Participates in meetings and performs other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the contract and Board of Education.
• Assesses and addresses students’ strengths and learning needs.
Case management including:
• Developing IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)
• Monitoring student progress
• Communicating with parents and team members
• Assisting in the preparation of student schedules
• Implementing behavior intervention plans
• Coordinating scheduled meeting times when necessary
• Plans and implements appropriate instruction using methods and materials which are most appropriate for meeting student goals and objectives.
• Evaluates students on a regular basis and provides reports as required.
• Creates a classroom and school environment that is conducive to learning and is age appropriate.
• Utilizes technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
• Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Applies student learning theory, brain-based learning, and differentiated instruction.
• Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
• Additional responsibilities as appropriate for the position.

Terms of Employment:

• Hours/Day: According to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA – Art. II – Section 10.A)
• Months/Year: According to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA – Art. II – Section 10.B)

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
