Institutional Equity Sophomore Summer Analyst Program (New York)

This 10-week program offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of Institutional Equity at Morgan Stanley. It consists of one week of classroom training followed by multiple rotations across the Equity division through our Trading, Distribution, and Prime Brokerage desks.

Training Program:

Summer Analysts begin with a one-day orientation that introduces them to the Firm’s businesses, explains what it’s like to be an employee at Morgan Stanley, and fosters networking with other Summer Analysts. The remainder of the training focuses on divisional-specific skills essential to a successful summer. This curriculum covers daily market updates, business-specific overviews, and basic product and technical training.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The program provides exposure to various areas within Institutional Equity, including:

Cash Equities: Gain experience in executing transactions in cash equity and equity-related products (common stocks, global depository receipts, exchange-traded funds) for institutional clients worldwide.
Sales: Work closely with Chief Investment Officers, Portfolio Managers, and Traders to deliver meaningful market insights and expertise. You will facilitate introductions to product experts across the Division and Firm to help clients achieve their investment objectives.
Equity Derivatives: Explore the world of global equity derivatives markets, where you’ll learn about execution services and solutions, including equity options, equity swaps, warrants, structured notes, and futures on individual securities, indices, and baskets of securities.
Sales Trading: Learn how to help Institutional clients identify and implement cost-efficient, suitable trading solutions, providing pricing and liquidity while managing firm risk.
Prime Brokerage: Immerse yourself in the Prime Brokerage space, where you will gain insights into financing, market access, and portfolio management for hedge funds.
Capital Introductions, Business Consulting, and Risk: Learn how these teams play critical roles in the day-to-day management of hedge fund operations, helping clients raise new capital and effectively run their businesses.

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree with a graduation date of December 2026 or Spring 2027.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• A keen interest in finance and markets, while no prior knowledge is required.
• Collaborative, a quick learner, adaptable, versatile, a multi-tasker, enjoys problem-solving, and possesses a strong work ethic.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Compensation:

Expected base pay rate(s) for the role will be $36.06 per hour at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which may include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
