Software Engineering Intern, Applications – Fall 2026 | Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies
The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, located in Palo Alto, CA or Irvine, CA, for the Fall 2026 term (September 21 – December 18). Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. The company focuses on developing technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world, from operating systems to zonal controllers, to cloud and connectivity solutions. This role is vital for creating an immersive in-vehicle digital experience, specifically by designing and developing user-facing applications that directly impact the customer’s electric vehicle journey, such as the navigation system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design and develop applications on Android OS, contributing to critical features such as navigation or media functionalities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product and UI/UX design, to define the features and specifications for new applications.
• Debug and resolve application issues, ensuring high quality and stability before the final release to users.
• Write comprehensive test code to verify the quality, robustness, and functional correctness of applications, addressing all edge cases.
• Grow your technical and professional skills through continuous learning opportunities, workshops, conferences, and internal talks.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at an accredited US university.
• Experience: No specific prior professional experience is explicitly required in the minimum qualifications.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in Kotlin programming language. Proficiency using Android and Android Jetpack APIs.
• Bonus: Actively pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field with the intent to return to school following completion of the internship. Experience developing Android Apps. Knowledge of Android design principles and application interface guidelines. Experience with continuous integration tools, such as Jenkins.
