Job Description

About the Job: Software Engineering Intern (Arene SDK) – 2026 Internship

Woven by Toyota is at the forefront of enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a dynamic mobility company. Rooted in a rich legacy of innovating for the benefit of humanity, our core mission is to profoundly challenge the current paradigms of mobility through deep human-centric innovation. We are committed to expanding the very definition of “mobility” and reimagining how it serves society on a global scale.

Our expansive work is strategically organized around four pivotal pillars:

  • AD/ADAS: Our cutting-edge autonomous driving and advanced driver-assist technologies.
  • Arene: Our revolutionary software development platform designed specifically for software-defined vehicles.
  • Woven City: A visionary test course and living laboratory for future mobility solutions.
  • Cloud & AI: The robust digital infrastructure that powers our collaborative foundation.

These specialized teams are empowered by essential business-critical functions, all working cohesively towards one audacious goal: a future world with zero accidents and significantly enhanced well-being for all.

TEAM: Arene

The ambitious goal of the Arene team is to democratize vehicle programming, making it accessible to everyone. We achieve this by meticulously simplifying vehicle software development processes and substantially increasing deployment frequency, all while uncompromisingly upholding the highest standards of safety and security. This paradigm shift is poised to cultivate an entirely new market of vehicle application developers who will leverage software to integrate vehicles into our daily lives in truly novel and intuitive ways. Arene is committed to fundamentally improving how vehicles are conceptualized, designed, and developed, and we collaborate intimately with Toyota to bring this vision to fruition in its next-generation vehicles.

During this enriching internship, you will be an integral part of the Arene SDK team. In this capacity, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of next-generation in-vehicle user experiences specifically for future Toyota and Lexus vehicles. These experiences will be powerfully driven by Arene – Woven By Toyota’s flagship programmable automotive software platform. Your work will sit at the thrilling intersection of cutting-edge software, sophisticated hardware, and meticulous automotive craftsmanship, masterfully blending Silicon Valley–style innovation with Toyota’s revered standards for safety, quality, and excellence within a fast-paced, intensely collaborative prototyping environment.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are actively seeking a highly motivated Software Engineering Intern to join our Arene team in our mission to create the most programmable vehicles on the planet. As a key contributor to our broader embedded engineering initiatives, you will engage with in-vehicle software across multiple layers — spanning from operating systems and middleware to APIs and tooling — thereby enabling the realization of the next generation of Software Defined Vehicles.

This internship presents an exceptional opportunity to contribute meaningfully to diverse embedded projects, foster collaboration with various teams across Arene, Toyota, and our global partners, and gain invaluable hands-on experience in the intricate processes of how modern automotive software is architected, developed, tested, and rigorously validated for production deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, implementation, testing, and debugging of embedded software components for Arene’s advanced platform.
  • Contribute to the development of robust APIs, device drivers, middleware, and services that facilitate seamless interfacing between hardware and applications.
  • Help to improve and optimize development tools, build systems, and automation workflows to streamline embedded software delivery.
  • Participate actively in the detailed analysis of technical requirements and the creation of comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Assist in the integration of software into target hardware platforms and the subsequent validation of its performance and functionality.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers from various Arene teams on dynamic cross-functional projects.
  • Adhere diligently to best practices for embedded development, critical safety requirements, and stringent code quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience programming in C++.
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments.
  • Understanding of version control systems such as Git.
  • Genuine interest in embedded systems, real-time software, or low-level development.
  • Able to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June of 2026.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to real-time operating systems (RTOS) or automotive OS environments (e.g., QNX, Android Automotive OS).
  • Experience with containerization tools (e.g., Docker) or CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with automotive or embedded processor architectures (e.g., ARM, x86).
  • Knowledge of advanced build systems and tools such as Bazel, Yocto, or BitBake.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware interfacing and developing **device drivers.
  • Understanding of vehicle-related software standards (e.g., AUTOSAR, MISRA, ISO 26262) relevant to functional safety.

Our Commitment

  • We are an equal opportunity employer and deeply value diversity in our workforce.
