Software Engineering (Intern) Job Description:

Acorns is seeking current college Juniors (graduating in 2026) for 10-week Spring/Summer 2025 software engineering internships across Android, Backend, iOS, and Web disciplines. Interns will work full-time and be integrated into teams as full employees, receiving real-world experience and mentorship.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with engineering teams to develop innovative solutions and introduce new ideas, technologies, and methodologies.
• Write high-quality code using various programming languages (Java, Scala, Ruby, Swift, Kotlin, Typescript, or Javascript).
• Produce thorough design and development documentation.
• Translate high-level business requirements into services and data models.
• Architect and build new components in a performant and scalable manner.
• Collaborate with product and other engineering teams (mobile, frontend, QA).
• Contribute to building reliable and cohesive financial products.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
• Junior standing (graduating in 2026).
• Full-time availability for 10 weeks starting in June 2025.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Java, Scala, Ruby, Swift, Kotlin, Typescript, or Javascript).
• Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
• Eagerness to learn new technologies.
• Passion, drive, and ability to thrive in a startup environment.
• Commitment to delivering impactful products.
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Specific Team Focus Areas:

Android: Native app development using Kotlin, collaborating with designers and product managers.
Backend: Building scalable and secure backend services for millions of users.
iOS: Native app development using Swift, working closely with product and design teams.
Web: Developing web applications using React and Typescript, collaborating with mobile and backend teams.
