Job Description: Software Engineering Internship
Schonfeld offers a 10-week summer internship program (June-August) for students in technical or quantitative fields. Interns will be embedded within a software engineering team in the Schonfeld Technology division, working alongside experienced professionals on high-profile projects. The program offers a chance to experience Schonfeld’s culture and work environment.
Responsibilities: Interns will contribute to the development, deployment, and support of existing applications and new features/platforms within an Agile framework. Project assignments vary by team but may include:
• Building a real-time, low-latency trading platform and crossing engine for quantitative portfolio managers.
• Developing a multi-asset class portfolio management platform handling position lifecycles, trade reporting, clearing, and settlement.
• Creating an AI-based document recognition proof of concept to automate the ingestion, storage, and validation of investment materials and data.
Generally, interns will work alongside senior developers to improve the functionality, performance, stability, efficiency, and scalability of the research and trading platform. They will be assigned a manager and a mentor, participate in team-building events, lunch-and-learns, and social activities, and network with senior management. A summer-long project, presented at the program’s conclusion, is also part of the internship. Full-time employment offers may be extended upon successful completion.
Requirements:
• Student pursuing a degree in a technical or quantitative field.
• Demonstrated software engineering skills (through internships, coding competitions, or publications).
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (C++, Java, Python, etc. are mentioned).
• Basic knowledge of Git and databases.
• Strong creativity, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Interest in capital markets or finance and a strong desire to take ownership of work.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous financial industry experience (though not required).
• An advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field.
Compensation: The annual base pay is expected to be between $125,000 and $155,000, prorated for the internship duration. Actual compensation will depend on skills, qualifications, experience, and education level.
