Software Engineer Intern, Internal Apps | Neuralink

The Tone:
This is an internship at Neuralink, located in San Francisco, CA. Neuralink is dedicated to creating advanced devices for a bi-directional brain interface, aiming to restore movement and sight while revolutionizing human interaction with the digital world. This role on the internal apps team is crucial, as it builds and maintains the centralized data aggregation and analysis platform, directly supporting neuroscientists, physicists, and engineers. The work directly drives engineering and experimentation, impacting the company’s mission to meet clinical demand and deployment goals.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Build data platforms to collect, organize, and visualize a diverse set of data including neural signal recordings, device telemetries, surgery recordings, and experimental data.
• Create: Develop Lab Systems software, serving as the digital collaboration hub for all internal teams within the company.
• Implement: Architect and implement ERP software that orchestrates and tracks everything involved in designing brain-computer interfaces.
• Improve: Enhance DevOps and infrastructure to significantly increase developer productivity across the organization.
• Collaborate: Work directly alongside engineers and scientists to understand new workflows and build the right software tools to address their specific needs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing software engineering or a related field, with an interest in architecting and implementing elegant software solutions.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience shipping a product that has been actively used, regardless of tech stack or domain, showcasing full-stack engineering capability.
• Skills: Ability to design and implement simple and elegant software solutions; strong communication and collaborative problem-solving abilities; ownership mentality and comfort with ambiguity; understanding of how software works at a fundamental level.
• Bonus: Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript is preferred for full-stack engineering.
