Job Description
• Job Title: Software Engineer Intern
• Department/Team: Tesla Energy
• Location: Palo Alto, CA
• Expected Start Date & Duration: The position is expected to start in August/September 2025 and continue through the entire Fall term (approximately through December 2025), with a possibility to extend into Winter/Spring 2026 if available. A minimum commitment of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, is required for most internships.
• For International Students: If work authorization is through CPT, it is crucial to consult your school regarding your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site, as many students may be limited to part-time during the academic year.
• What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):
• Develop, enhance, and debug new and existing real-time software using C/C++ in embedded RTOS environments.
• Collaborate with Hardware (HW) and system teams to build testing infrastructure.
• Assist in designing and bringing up state-of-the-art Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) validation infrastructure.
• Help implement software tests for HIL/SIL infrastructure.
• Provide assistance in tool development for testing and system integration.
• Take ownership of the end-to-end implementation of software/firmware features.
• What You’ll Bring (Required & Desired Qualifications):
• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Desired: Strong understanding of Python.
• Desired: Good electrical and electronics fundamentals to be able to understand schematics and debug simple circuits.
• Desired: A test-driven development mindset.
• Ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive while solving challenging problems.
• Capability to own assignments and take full accountability for overall team success.
• Proficiency in delivering top-quality C/C++ code for embedded systems.
• Compensation and Benefits:
• Expected Compensation: $20.00 – $50.00/hour, plus benefits. Pay may vary based on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
