Senior Software Architect – RISC-V Embedded Systems | Microchip Technology

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Microchip Technology, located in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Microchip Technology designs the technology that powers the world, focusing on leading-edge 64-bit System-on-Chip (SoC) devices for Aerospace & Defense and industrial markets. This role is crucial for defining the end-to-end software architecture for next-generation RISC-V multi-processor SoCs, ensuring reliability and security standards for critical industries like Aerospace, Defense, and Automotive. What You’ll Actually Do
• Architectural Leadership: Define the comprehensive software architecture for a new RISC-V SoC, meeting real-time, performance, and security requirements.
• Standards & Governance: Establish coding standards and architectural guidelines that align with industry best practices for Aerospace, Defense, and Automotive.
• Technical Mentorship: Lead architectural and technical review forums, providing expert direction and guidance to engineering teams for consistent design rigor.
• Lifecycle Management: Oversee software designs, implementations, and verification evidence to ensure all objective records meet customer quality expectations.
• Strategic Partnership: Represent the architecture in customer discussions and collaborate with Marketing and Applications teams to shape the product roadmap.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level expertise as a Software Architect specializing in high-reliability embedded systems, with a strong background in Avionics or Automotive development.
• Experience: Extensive experience architecting platforms from scratch, coupled with deep knowledge of requirements traceability and evidence-based delivery.
• Skills: Strong expertise in RTOS, multi-processor architectures, and low-level programming using C/C++ and Python, along with demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and clearly communicate complex technical concepts to customers.
• Bonus: Familiarity with compliance standards like DO-178C/ED-12C or ISO 26262/ASPICE; hands-on experience with RISC-V architectures and embedded Linux in mixed-workload systems; experience with systems engineering and hardware/software co-development workflows; and an open-minded approach to leveraging AI-assisted tools in development.
