Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Social Media Intern position is critical for establishing a robust social media presence for the Wildcat Advantage and Internship Department, primarily focusing on Instagram. The successful candidate will be instrumental in launching and managing this presence, playing a key role in developing the initial social media strategy, creating engaging content, and establishing a consistent brand voice. This is a unique opportunity to build a social media presence from the ground up, with the aim of better connecting with students and promoting valuable internship opportunities and related information.

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy specifically for the Internships Department, with a primary focus on the Instagram platform.
Create engaging and visually appealing content, including a variety of formats such as graphics, short videos, and stories, ensuring all content is highly relevant to student internships and career development.
Design social media templates for future use, crucial for maintaining brand consistency across all digital materials.
Assist in maintaining a consistent brand identity across all social media visuals and other digital content.
Collaborate effectively with the Internships Department team to thoroughly understand their communication goals and translate these objectives into compelling social media content.
Monitor current social media trends and proactively identify opportunities to increase engagement with the target audience (students).
Work efficiently on multiple social media projects simultaneously and consistently meet established deadlines.

Learning Objective:

This internship offers a significant learning opportunity centered around developing integrated social media campaigns. The intern will gain practical skills in designing and executing comprehensive social media campaigns that seamlessly integrate branding, content creation, and engagement strategies. By the end of the internship, the student will have acquired hands-on experience in establishing a new social media presence and creating reusable content templates that effectively drive student engagement and promote internship opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be a full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled at Weber State University.
• Must be of Sophomore or Junior academic standing.
• Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
• Must be eligible for on-campus employment and have completed the current year’s FAFSA (for U.S. citizens).
• Demonstrated familiarity with Instagram and other popular social media platforms.
Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) is a plus.
• A strong portfolio showcasing creativity and an understanding of current social media trends is a plus.
• Possesses attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within established brand guidelines.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A full-time undergraduate student at Weber State University, majoring in Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field.
