About She CAN Edit:

She CAN Edit is a dynamic, Connecticut-based nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender gap in media and tech. We empower underserved young women by providing free, high-quality video production training, equipping them with valuable skills for future careers. Our mission is to foster creativity, build confidence, and create pathways to professional success in industries where women are underrepresented. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to a meaningful cause and gain hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly creative and passionate Social Media Intern to join our team. This is an unpaid internship, specifically designed for a student looking to earn academic credit while making a tangible impact. You will play a crucial role in amplifying our mission, showcasing the incredible talent of our students, and engaging our vital community of donors, partners, and supporters. If you have a passion for social media, storytelling, and empowering young women, we encourage you to apply!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation & Strategy: Design and produce compelling visual content for our Instagram and Facebook channels. This includes developing eye-catching Canva graphics, producing engaging Reels and Stories, and curating captivating visuals that highlight our workshops, student projects, and success stories. You’ll help us tell the story of empowerment and creativity.
  • Community Engagement & Growth: Actively monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions across our social platforms. Foster meaningful connections by engaging with our partner accounts (e.g., local libraries, educational institutions, corporate sponsors) to expand our reach and strengthen relationships within our community.
  • Digital Campaign Support: Provide essential support in the execution of key digital campaigns. This includes assisting with promotional efforts for our annual May fundraiser, driving awareness for upcoming workshops, and supporting other initiatives crucial to our growth and impact.
  • Performance Analysis & Reporting: Track and analyze basic engagement metrics (e.g., likes, shares, comments, reach) to evaluate the effectiveness of our content. You will help identify trends, understand what resonates with our audience, and contribute to data-driven improvements in our social media strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current US-based student pursuing a degree in Marketing, Digital Media, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Eligible for academic credit through your college or university. This is a strict requirement for the internship.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and active engagement with Instagram and Facebook.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Canva for graphic design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Video editing skills (especially for Reels/TikTok-style content) are a huge plus!
  • A proactive, creative, and organized approach to tasks, with an ability to meet deadlines.
  • A genuine interest in nonprofit work, youth empowerment, and gender equity in media and tech.

Why Join She CAN Edit?

  • Gain valuable, hands-on experience in social media marketing and nonprofit communications.
  • Build a strong portfolio with real-world examples of your content creation and campaign management.
  • Contribute to a vital mission that empowers young women and closes the gender gap.
  • Work within a supportive and inclusive team committed to diversity and equality.
  • Opportunity to network with community partners, donors, and industry professionals.
