Location Description
Our facility is located in Norwalk, Iowa, a southern suburb within the Des Moines metropolitan area. Known for its strong community and high quality of life, this location is responsible for producing high-quality precooked egg patties and various French Toast products.
Purpose
This SkillBridge internship is designed to provide transitioning Service Members with an invaluable opportunity to acquire the diverse skills and experiences necessary for a successful career in industrial maintenance. This program aims to position participants for a Direct-Hire opportunity upon successful completion of the internship, provided expectations are met and it is determined to be a good fit for the transitioning service member.
Internship Details
• Length of Training: No less than 90 days to no more than 180 days.
• Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
Detailed Job Description
This position involves comprehensive process and production maintenance throughout the facility. Maintenance/Multi-craft Maintenance responsibilities encompass:
• Responding to equipment breakdowns.
• Executing installation and startups of new machinery.
• Implementing process improvements.
• Managing preventative/precision maintenance programs.
• Participating in continuous improvement activities, including machine reliability initiatives and installation of facility capital investments.
Responsibilities for the Michael Foods SkillBridge program may include, but are not limited to:
• Utilizing CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for daily scheduled/unscheduled work, including review, execution, and documentation.
• Gaining experience in the installation and repair of mechanical equipment, requiring fluency in mechanical troubleshooting for diagnosing and repairing all machinery and process malfunctions.
• Diagnosing and repairing all mechanical power transmission equipment, with knowledge of gearboxes, mechanical drives, variable speed applications, and Servo motors.
• Diagnosing and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including knowledge of cylinders, valves, manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration, and lubrication devices.
• Diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling process pumps, automatic control valves, sensors, positioners, actuators, basic electrical AC/DC troubleshooting, and related systems.
• Developing proficiency in the knowledge of bearings, pulleys, chain drives, belt drives, and lubricant standards and applications.
• Gaining experienced use of precision tools, such such as dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges.
• Learning to read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams. The ability to read/interpret electrical schematics is a plus.
• Developing skills in pipe fitting, soldering, rigging applications, and the proficient use of mechanical tools, hand tools, and power tools.
• Acquiring skills in machine shop operations to fabricate parts within specific tolerances.
• Developing knowledge of 480v 3 phase electrical systems; knowledge and practice of NFPA 70E are preferred.
• Adhering to safe work practices, following GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices), maintaining sanitary conditions, and ensuring product quality. Reporting any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety to management.
• Adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
• Taking responsibility for Food Safety and Food Quality of Michael Foods products.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This transition opportunity is for 90-180 days and is open to any Service Members with Maintenance related Job Codes, NECS, or Ratings.
