Job Description: SkillBridge General Manager in Training (GMIT) Internship
This SkillBridge internship is designed for transitioning military members interested in learning the intricacies of running and managing a business in the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing industry. The General Manager in Training (GMIT) Intern will report to the senior operations team (CEO, SVP of People, SVP of Growth, and Regional Vice Presidents “RVPs”). The program is designed to tailor the orientation to the individual’s prior experience, skills, and training for a smooth transition to the private sector. The SkillBridge Program can be 90-180 days of internship, a total of twelve to twenty-four weeks or three to six months. The intern will be assessed on their knowledge of the curriculum for that designated training phase.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operational Leadership: Learn to manage HVAC, electrical, and plumbing service operations, including service delivery, quality control, and logistics.
• People Management: Assist in overseeing technicians, customer service representatives, and support staff. Develop leadership skills through employee training, retention strategies, and performance management.
• Sales and Organic Growth: Gain hands-on experience with sales systems, leading a sales team (comfort advisors), and running in-home sales calls.
• Financial Performance: Learn about managing budgets, forecasting revenue, and controlling expenses to drive operational profitability. Understand financial metrics in a private equity-backed company.
• Customer Satisfaction: Maintain high standards of customer service, resolve customer issues, and ensure positive customer relationships.
• Customer Acquisition and Marketing: Support company growth by assisting in the development and execution of marketing and sales strategies.
• Process Improvement: Work on initiatives to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and enhance overall business performance.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• A proactive, self-starter attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Program Structure:
The internship is 90-180 days long. At the end of each period, interns will be assessed on their understanding and application of the skills and knowledge they have learned during the program.
Eligibility:
• Open to candidates currently enrolled in the SkillBridge Program.
• Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the Department of Defense and be transitioning service members.
