The Tone:

• Team: Core Distributed Systems team
• Mission: To architect, design, and implement critical backend services and infrastructure that drive the platform’s scalability, reliability, and performance.

What You’ll Actually Do
• System Design & Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of complex, highly available, and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to multiple engineering teams, influencing strategic technical decisions.
• Hands-on Development: Write high-quality, performant, and maintainable code in languages such as Go, Java, or C++.
• Performance & Reliability: Identify and address performance bottlenecks, optimize resource utilization, and ensure operational excellence of critical services.
• Mentorship & Coaching: Mentor and coach senior and staff-level engineers, fostering technical growth and spreading expertise.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. This is a senior staff-level role focused on driving technical excellence in distributed systems.
• Experience: 8+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 3-4 years specifically focused on designing and building large-scale distributed systems. Proven track record of optimizing system performance, latency, and resource utilization.
• Skills: Deep expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining highly scalable, reliable, and fault-tolerant backend services; strong proficiency in Go, Java, or C++; comprehensive understanding of distributed systems concepts (e.g., consensus, replication, consistency models, message queues, RPC frameworks); extensive experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Cassandra, DynamoDB, MongoDB).
• Bonus: Experience leading architectural discussions for major system components, expert-level experience with Docker and Kubernetes, and experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming).
