The Tone:
This is a full-time hybrid role at Workday, located in Dublin, Ireland. Workday is a Fortune 500 company and a leading AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, shaping the future of work. This role is crucial for developing and operating large-scale distributed data systems that process hundreds of terabytes of data, supporting critical Workday products and providing real-time insights across platforms, infrastructure, and applications. The team focuses on creating resilient and high-performing messaging, streaming, and caching solutions for Workday’s global customer base.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Location: Hybrid – Dublin, Ireland
• Pay: €96,000 EUR – €144,000 EUR yearly
• Team: Messaging, Streaming and Caching team within Data Platform and Observability
• Mission: Architect and provide async messaging, streaming, and NoSQL platforms and solutions that power Workday products and SKUs.
• Tech Stack: Kafka, Redis, RabbitMQ, Zookeeper, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Bare Metal, Java/Scala, Golang, Chef, Helm, ArgoCD, AWS, GCP, Private cloud

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Design, build, and enhance critical distributed services, including Kafka, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
• Develop: Design, develop, build, deploy, and maintain core distributed services using a combination of open source and proprietary stacks across diverse infrastructure environments.
• Automate: Construct observability modules, alerts, and automation for dashboard lifecycle management for the distributed services.
• Operate: Build, deploy, and operate infrastructure components in production environments, including participation in the on-call rotation.
• Optimize: Manage and optimize Workday distributed services across AWS, GCP, and private cloud environments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior software engineer with a distributed systems background and significant experience in distributed systems products.
• Experience: 6+ years as a Kafka, Redis, or RabbitMQ Admin with cloud platform experience; 6+ years of software engineering experience using Java/Scala or Golang; 4+ years of distributed systems experience; 3+ years of development and DevOps experience in designing and operating large-scale deployments of distributed NoSQL and messaging systems; 1+ year of leading a NoSQL technology related product from conception to deployment and maintenance.
• Skills: Expertise in developing distributed system software and deployments that perform well and degrade gracefully under excessive load; hands-on experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ, Redis, or Cassandra; experience with configuration management using Chef and service deployment on Kubernetes via Helm and ArgoCD; experience with Linux system internals and tuning; strong written and oral communication skills.
• Bonus: Experience supporting EU Sovereign Cloud (EU-SOV) or other regulated cloud environments; managing Kafka, Redis, and RabbitMQ with strict data residency, compliance, and security requirements; implementing platform security controls (IAM, RBAC, TLS, encryption, certificate management, secrets management); supporting compliance initiatives (GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2); collaborating with Security, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams for audits; supporting disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience.
