Job Description: Senior Manufacturing NPI Engineer
This role is based in San Jose, CA and will contribute to the development of a complex robotic medical platform. The Senior Manufacturing NPI Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the platform is highly scalable and manufacturable from day one of commercial launch.
Overview:
Manufacturing NPI Engineers at RAD are multi-functional, working closely with various teams including Research & Development Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, Marketing, and Regulatory. They are responsible for coordinating all aspects of Process Design, Development, Optimization, Validation, and Improvement throughout the product lifecycle. They are adept at making trade-off decisions that prioritize product performance when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process Improvement: Studies existing processes to implement improvements on new products.
• Equipment Design & Development: Identifies, designs, and develops necessary equipment for new product development.
• Process & Test Specifications: Prepares and manages process and test specifications.
• Technical Support: Assists technicians and engineers with unusual problems.
• Equipment Procurement & Design: Purchases and designs equipment that meets J&J safety and environmental standards.
• Process Development: Develops new manufacturing and assembly processes consistent with Design for Manufacturability for new product introductions, adhering to regulatory, industry, and J&J standards.
• Automation: Continuously seeks automation opportunities in new and existing processes to reduce costs and improve quality.
• Equipment Qualification: Coordinates and executes qualification of new or improved manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
• Team Leadership: Supervises, coordinates, and technically revises the work of a limited group of technicians. Communicates business related issues and opportunities to management.
• Troubleshooting & Technical Assistance: Provides troubleshooting and technical assistance to manufacturing operations to resolve process control issues for new processes.
• Project Team Participation: Participates on project teams to meet business objectives related to quality, financial performance, EH&S, and performance goals.
• Technology Evaluation: Evaluates new technologies to improve process safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency. Implements digital solutions to solve problems and enhance process performance.
• Training: Coordinates training of personnel on equipment operation and maintenance.
• Capital Appropriation Requests: Submits Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) for project funding.
• Compliance: Ensures personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies, and procedures. Adheres to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines.
• Leadership: Accountable to the Johnson and Johnson Standards of Leadership (Credo Values, customer/Marketplace Focus, Innovation, Masters complexity, and Organizational and People Development).
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (any specialty), with Mechanical, Biomedical, or Mechatronics preferred. Relevant internship or co-op experience is highly desired. Master’s in Science or Engineering is preferred.
• Experience & Skills:
• Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Knowledge of good manufacturing practices and documentation for production processes.
• SPC knowledge and management of statistical procedures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with Design of Experiments.
• Comprehension of standard costs and work standards.
• Familiarity with engineering design documentation and drawings.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
Other:
• The anticipated travel for this position is 50%.
• The anticipated base salary for this position is $106,000.00 to $146,566.35.
• The position will be primarily located in San Jose, CA but may require occasional, onsite support at the Redwood City, CA facility. Ten percent travel domestically may be required.
