Job Description

Senior Cloud Platform Engineer

Are you a highly skilled and passionate Software Engineer with a deep love for building robust, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure? Do you thrive on solving complex distributed systems challenges and empowering fellow engineers to build amazing products? If so, join our innovative team at [Company Name] as a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer and help us shape the future of our technological foundation!

About the Role:

As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer at [Company Name], you will be a pivotal member of a dedicated team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that power all of our cutting-edge applications. You’ll work at the intersection of software engineering and cloud operations, building the tools, platforms, and automation that enable our product teams to deliver features quickly, reliably, and at scale. This isn’t just about keeping the lights on; it’s about innovating, optimizing, and building the next generation of our cloud capabilities.

What You’ll Do:

Design & Develop Core Platform Services: Architect, implement, and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant, and performant cloud services and APIs using languages like Go, Python, Java, or Rust. These services will span areas such as compute orchestration, data persistence, messaging, service mesh, and observability.
Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Spearhead the adoption and evolution of our IaC practices using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi to manage and provision our cloud resources efficiently and repeatably across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Enhance Scalability & Reliability: Identify performance bottlenecks, implement intelligent auto-scaling solutions, and develop self-healing mechanisms to ensure our platform can handle immense load and maintain 99.99%+ uptime.
Champion Observability: Build and refine comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Jaeger) to provide deep insights into system health and performance, enabling proactive problem resolution.
Automate Everything: Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) for automated testing, deployment, and operational tasks, reducing manual effort and improving release velocity.
Foster a Culture of SRE: Contribute to defining and upholding Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, including incident response, post-mortems, and capacity planning. Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the stability of critical systems.
Mentor & Lead: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and actively contribute to our team’s growth and knowledge sharing.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product engineering teams, security, and operations to understand their needs, provide expert advice, and deliver platform solutions that enable their success.

What You’ll Bring:

5+ years of professional software development experience, with a significant focus on cloud platforms, distributed systems, and infrastructure engineering.
Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go, Python, Java, or Rust, with a track record of building production-grade services.
Deep expertise with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure), including a solid understanding of compute, storage, networking, and database services.
Extensive experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
Proven ability to design, build, and operate highly scalable and resilient distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, Load Balancing) and security best practices in a cloud environment.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment strategies.
• Familiarity with various database technologies (SQL, NoSQL) and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
Excellent problem-solving skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to system reliability.
Strong communication and collaboration skills – you can articulate complex technical concepts clearly and work effectively within a team environment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Experience with specific service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).
• Contributions to open-source projects related to cloud infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Experience with chaos engineering or advanced testing methodologies for distributed systems.
• Certifications from a major cloud provider (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
