About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our core AI Platform team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining the robust, scalable, and secure backend systems that power our intelligent solutions. You will work on critical services, APIs, and data pipelines that support our machine learning models, real-time analytics, and user-facing applications. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on our product architecture, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a technology stack that drives meaningful change.

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure backend services and APIs, ensuring alignment with overall platform strategy and future growth.
• Backend Development: Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and testable code primarily in Python and/or Go for core microservices, data processing pipelines, and integrations with AI/ML models.
• Database Management: Design and optimize database schemas (SQL/NoSQL) and ensure efficient data storage, retrieval, and integrity for high-volume, low-latency applications.
• API Development: Develop and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, ensuring high performance, security, and ease of consumption for frontend and external partners.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Work extensively with AWS (or GCP/Azure) services for deployment, monitoring, and scaling of backend applications (e.g., EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, EKS/ECS, SQS/SNS).
• Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize existing codebases, and implement strategies for system stability and reliability.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, data scientists, product managers, and other stakeholders. Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices within the team.
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Implement comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure the quality and robustness of developed features.
• Monitoring & Alerting: Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure the health and performance of production services.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development, with a significant portion focused on building scalable cloud-native applications.
• Programming Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in at least one of Python or Go, with a strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Cloud Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS preferred), including familiarity with compute, storage, networking, and serverless technologies.
• Database Skills: Solid experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis).
• API Design: Proven experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs; familiarity with GraphQL is a plus.
• Microservices: Experience working with and designing microservices architectures and distributed systems.
• Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, AKS).
• Testing & CI/CD: Strong commitment to writing testable code and experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Problem Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Domain Knowledge: Experience working on platforms that integrate with AI/ML models, data science workflows, or real-time analytics.
• Message Queues: Experience with message brokers like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS/SNS.
• Performance Engineering: Background in performance tuning, load testing, and optimizing high-traffic services.
• Security Best Practices: Understanding of common security vulnerabilities and best practices for building secure applications.
• Open Source Contributions: Active contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio of personal projects.
