Senior Accounting Manager | Mozilla

The Senior Accounting Manager will be instrumental in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and scalability of accounting and financial operations across Mozilla.org and its related subsidiaries, directly contributing to the success and growth of the overall nonprofit mission.

• Team: Finance team, reporting to the Head of Finance
• Mission: This role owns multi-entity accounting, financial close and reporting, treasury, tax coordination, audit management, and financial controls for Mozilla.org and related subsidiaries.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting Operations: Own daily general ledger accounting for three managed entities (one non-profit, two for-profit, one international), meticulously recording transactions including journal entries, expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and inter-company transactions.
• Financial Close & Reporting: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across all entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining general ledger integrity, and preparing comprehensive financial statements and management reports.
• Treasury & Tax Compliance: Oversee all cash management and treasury activities, manage banking relationships, implement payment controls, and coordinate federal, state, and local tax compliance with external advisors, including corporate income tax and Form 990.
• Audit & Controls: Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating audit planning, preparing documentation, tracking findings, and strengthening internal controls over accounting, cash, payments, and financial reporting.
• Process Optimization: Identify and implement opportunities to improve, automate, and scale recurring accounting, reconciliation, and reporting processes, including supporting accounting-system implementations and integrations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A senior-level accounting professional with significant expertise in both non-profit and for-profit technical accounting, possessing sound judgment and a deep understanding of U.S. GAAP principles.
• Experience: Over 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, demonstrating significant ownership of general ledger, close, and financial reporting activities for both non-profit and for-profit organizations. Required experience includes supporting multiple legal entities, managing treasury and cash flow, coordinating tax compliance, overseeing annual audits, and strengthening internal controls.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP; excellent analytical skills with the ability to independently identify and resolve complex accounting issues; proficient systems and spreadsheet skills, with an interest in process improvement; exceptional organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines; ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with finance leadership and external partners.
• Bonus: CPA or equivalent accounting qualification; experience with nonprofit accounting including grants, program-related investments, functional expense reporting, and Form 990; inter-company accounting and consolidated or combined financial reporting; multi-state tax compliance and complex treasury environments; experience with international entities.
