Job Description:
Security Engineer Intern
This is a full-time internship opportunity for students pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field. Interns will work Monday-Friday, typically between 8am-5pm, for a minimum of 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with experienced security engineers to create and implement security controls, defenses, and countermeasures.
• Develop, test, review, debug, and deploy code that supports security protocols.
• Work effectively with teams to identify security issues and improve the security of their services.
• Assess risks that could affect data, systems, or services.
• Resolve security events, incidents, and conduct security assessments using various tools and methodologies.
• Classify, store, and handle data in accordance with policies and best practices.
• Troubleshoot, research, and resolve security or risk issues with guidance.
Day-to-Day Activities:
Internship program provides hands-on learning experiences for students interested in security engineering. Interns will work on impactful projects, engage with Amazonians for both professional and personal development, expand their network, and participate in fun activities with other interns.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
• Experience scripting with Python, Perl, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience with at least one modern language such as Java, Python, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
• Experience in one or more of the following domains:
• Access control system and methodology
• Network security
• Application and system development security
• Security architecture and models
• Cryptography
• Operations security
• 18 years of age or older.
• Able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and commit to a 12-week internship maximum.
• Currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or other equivalent discipline, with an expected conferral date between October 2025 – December 2028.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with tools such as Wireshark, encryption software, Snort, Sguil, Suricata, Kibana, Metasploit, Nmap, OpenSSL, or Setkey.
• Experience with AWS Services including EC2, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, SQS.
• Previous technical internships or co-ops in one or more of the following domains:
• Access control system and methodology
• Network security
• Application and system development security
• Security architecture and models
• Cryptography
• Operations security.
• Enrolled in a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or other equivalent discipline, with an expected conferral date between October 2025 – December 2028.
Location:
• Interns can express their preference for location during the application process, but Amazon cannot guarantee specific locations due to business needs.
• Locations include: Greater Seattle Area (Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond), Greater Bay Area (San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara), Greater DMV (DC, MD, VA), Austin (TX), New York City (NY), Minneapolis (MN).
Start Date:
• Summer 2025 (Starts May/June 2025)
Compensation:
• The base pay for this position ranges from $60.34/hr in the lowest geographic market up to $102.31/hr in the highest geographic market.
• Pay is based on factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
