Job Description: Search E-Commerce Intern

The Search E-Commerce team at TikTok is responsible for the search algorithm powering their rapidly growing global e-commerce business. They utilize cutting-edge technology including large-scale machine learning, NLP, CV, and multi-modal technology to build a world-class search engine, serving over 1 billion monthly active users.

Their mission: To create a world where “there is no hard-to-sell good-priced product in the world.”

This internship offers a chance to:

Gain industry exposure and hands-on experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Develop fundamental skills and explore potential career paths in the field of search and e-commerce.
Learn and grow through social events and development workshops.
Apply knowledge in real-world scenarios and build a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.

The program runs for 12 weeks starting in May/June 2025.

Responsibilities:

Improve basic search quality and user experience:
• Optimize query analysis and text relevance matching.
• Understand e-commerce video content and implement multi-modal matching.
• Improve users’ perception of product authority.
• Participate in the design and implementation of core search products.
Design and implement the end-to-end ranking system:
• Improve users’ personalized shopping interests models.
• Enhance the shopping conversion efficiency for merchandise, video, and live streams to promote GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) growth.
Promote a healthy ecosystem:
• Solve challenging problems such as supply and demand matching, business cold start, and sustainable business growth.
• Analyze and adjust the system evolution to achieve long-term, sustainable GMV growth.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
Commitment to working 12 weeks during Summer 2025.
Work authorization in the country of employment.
Excellent coding skills and solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
Strong analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to extract key insights from complex data.
Experience with publications in top journals or conferences (a plus).
Experience winning ACM-ICPC medals (a plus).

Preferred:

Graduating December 2025 onwards with the intent to return to their degree program after the internship.
