Job Descriptions

MPC offers internships in the Commercial department, with opportunities in various roles. Some travel may be required for each role.

1. Scheduling Intern:

Responsibilities: Optimizing resource allocation and production schedules. This includes scheduling the delivery of light products, feedstocks, and biofuels via pipeline or waterborne transportation to meet customer demand. Coordinate pipeline, barge, and/or tanker movements to optimize product supply, minimizing transportation costs and ensuring quality. Monitor inventories and adjust shipping schedules to avoid shortages. Develop improved scheduling methods to efficiently utilize company resources, optimize inventory levels, and minimize transportation costs. Coordinate communication between terminals, Commercial, Exchange, and Product Quality regarding inventory or operational issues.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, or other related disciplines.

2. Marketing Intern (Corporate Office):

Responsibilities: Support the marketing team by analyzing market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscapes to identify growth opportunities. Gather and interpret data, create reports, and assist in developing marketing strategies and campaigns. This role provides hands-on experience in market research and data-driven decision-making within a dynamic commercial environment.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Finance, Business Analytics, or other related disciplines.

3. Marketing Intern (Field-Based):

Responsibilities: Spend time in the field learning the responsibilities of a Territory Manager. Travel to customer offices or dealer gasoline locations with a Territory Manager, assist in prospecting for new customers, and take on projects/studies related to station financials and operations. This role provides exposure to various components of the Commercial organization and other corporate departments, including Product Quality, Governmental Affairs, Business Development, Terminal, Transport & Rail.
Desired Major/Minor: Business Administration, Management, Marketing, Finance, Business Analytics, or other related disciplines.

4. Coordinating Intern:

Responsibilities: Assist in managing and streamlining operational and project-related tasks. Support coordination efforts across departments, ensuring smooth communication and efficient project execution. Responsibilities include scheduling meetings, tracking project progress, preparing reports, and assisting with administrative tasks. This role develops organizational and multitasking skills while contributing to project success.

5. Systems Support Intern:

Responsibilities: Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting Commercial systems and applications. Serve as a liaison between the Commercial organization and IT regarding application enhancements, bug fixes, upgrade timing, lifecycle management, new features, and overall system usability. This role provides hands-on experience in Commercial systems support and application management. Utilize tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Alteryx to enhance user experience.
