About Job Description (Sales Internship)

This job description outlines a 10-week paid summer internship designed for individuals passionate about a career in sales, offering hands-on experience and skill development within Ferguson.

Key aspects of the internship include:

Role Purpose: To provide interns with practical experience in serving customers and building essential sales competencies, enabling them to make a meaningful impact within the organization. The internship serves as a potential pathway to full-time job opportunities, such as the Sales Trainee Program, upon successful completion and strong performance.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities & Learning):
• Gain hands-on experience in core sales functions including customer service, product knowledge, sales processes, customer relationship management (CRM), and performance analysis.
• Collaborate with experienced sales teams on real-world projects.
• Assist with shipping and receiving duties in the warehouse to understand the impact of supply chain and logistics on sales.
• Participate in dedicated leadership and sales training sessions.
• Engage in various sales activities, including inside sales, outside sales, counter sales, and branch management, to gain comprehensive insight into daily branch operations.
• Attend leadership panels and networking events to connect with professionals across the organization.
• Develop and present a final sales project to senior leaders.
• Participate in a one-week immersive experience at Ferguson’s headquarters in Newport News, VA, for networking and deeper understanding of the company culture and values.
What You Need (Qualifications):
Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, sales, or a related field, and be a rising junior or senior.
Availability: Able to commit to working 10 consecutive weeks during the summer.
Skills & Attributes: Highly motivated, self-starter, competitive, customer-centric, adaptable to a fast-paced environment, strong communication and interpersonal skills, collaborative team player, real-world problem solver with a willingness to “roll up their sleeves,” strong teamwork, adaptability, time management skills, ability to navigate ambiguity, strong organizational skills.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
