Site Safety Internship | Blattner

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at Blattner, located in construction project sites across the United States. Blattner is a leading renewable energy contractor with over a century of experience, focused on utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects. This role is crucial in assisting site supervisory personnel to identify and remedy unsafe working conditions, ensuring an injury-free environment, and contributing to America’s clean energy future.

The TL;DR

• Team: Collaborates with site supervisory personnel, trade superintendents, foremen, and crew.
• Mission: To assist site personnel in identifying and remedying unsafe working conditions, ensuring an injury-free work site, and executing the site safety program for renewable energy projects.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, Outlook, Visio)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Safety Collaboration: Assist and collaborate with site supervisory personnel to immediately identify and remedy unsafe working conditions, establishing an injury-free work site.
• Field Audits: Spend approximately 65% of work time in the field conducting audits, crew visits, and subcontractor visits to ensure safe work practices.
• Incident Investigation: Assist in the investigation of all accidents and near misses with trade superintendents, foremen, and crew, while also accompanying inspectors on tours and ensuring documentation is completed.
• Program Execution: Ensure and assist the site team with executing the site safety program, including training, orientations, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and daily field observations.
• Safety Training: Participate in Blattner Energy safety-related training programs, including OSHA 10 and OSHA 30-hour trainings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level; currently pursuing a four-year degree in occupational safety/health or a related field.
• Experience: Able to relocate to the assigned construction project site for the duration of the 12-week internship; possesses a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR) and access to reliable transportation.
• Skills: Comfortable with exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and a trailer office environment inherent to construction sites.
• Bonus: Effective communication skills (oral, written, presentation); proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, Outlook, Visio); independently motivated with supervisory skills; ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks; ability to recognize imminent danger and act accordingly.
